SEATAC, Wash. (AP) -All nine Christmas trees have been removed from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport instead of adding a giant Jewish menorah to the holiday display as a rabbi had requested. Maintenance workers boxed up the trees during the graveyard shift early Saturday, when airport bosses believed few people would notice.

This is what happens when people are 'thoughtful and respectful' of others. When it comes to Christmas, Christianity and what we want to see continued as OUR HERITAGE, let the others fight the battle instead of giving it away. Fight for our rights. Don't let anyone remove, Christmas, Christian symbols in the name of 'respect' for others. They have their place in teh sun as well without removing our historical symbols.

First off, the Christmas tree is NOT a Christian symbol nor an American historical symbol. Second, the airport got stupid. What the heck would have been wrong with putting up a Menorah? Nothing. Idiots, that's what they are.

Jesus probably would have enjoyed a Menorah.

Here we go again. Take it up, pull it down, it's all a giant atheistic conspiracy to ban all things religious. It's ok...go ahead and blame us. We're used to it. If they WANT a Christmas tree, fine. If they want to take it down, fine. If you don't like it, for the 1 hour or so that you actually have to BE there while switching flights, complain. Frankly, what happens at Seatle's Airport is across the country, and has no bearing on how I spend Christmas.

I think the airport folks over reacted. The Christmas Tree is a festive decoration for the holiday season. Period. Unless it was strung up with baby jesus', I don't see why the Rabbi got his panties in a wad. If it had been up to me...I'd have hung a menorah ornament on each of the trees, and waved bye bye to the trouble maker. Sheesh! *modified to add: I was in two airports this past week and both of them were decorated to the hilt with Christmas trees, wreaths, Santas, Snowmen, etc. Nobody seemed to mind and it just made traveling more fun. Bah humbug indeed.

Here we go again. I, I, I, I. There are others on the planet than I, I and I. And, yes, it is across teh country. But, there's much more to it than that. Too bad you don't recognize that.

Actually, this could be a blessing in duisguise. If everyone did this, those who caused the removal would hopefully feel badly and this foolishness would cease. This guy was surprised they just got rid of the entire issue and maybe felt sorry. Wishful thinking, eh? A manorrah is fine to have. It's the complaining the airport probably did nt' like.

Maybe some Christians should complain about the absence of Christmas decorations in Israel's airports.

Good point, Dimplomat. I'm sure they wouldn't stand for it. But, really, I have nothing against a Menorah being at the airport or anywhere else. Their history goes back thousands of years and they are non violent.

What the heck would have been wrong with putting up a Menorah? Nothing. Idiots, that's what they are. It just sets a precedent to display symbols of ALL religious holidays. For example: Here is how they celebrate the religious holiday of Moharam in Iran: LOOKHow would it look to have these types of martyrdom pictures on display in airports?

I think they should have left the trees up and added the menorah to the scene. As an international airport I would think they would want to accommodate all of their patrons.

I suspect the airport would have had no problem with adding a menorah if they could be assured that it would put an end to the controversy. But it sounds to me like they feared this lawsuit was just the tip of the iceberg and, if they gave in to the rabbi, they'd be forced to give in to folks from other religions who may have felt compelled to sue.

If you buy that arguement, just what other holidays would have to be represented? And so what if they were?
