I think they should have left the trees up and added the menorah to the scene. As an international airport I would think they would want to accommodate all of their patrons. But, see, that makes too much sense. And it would infuriate the arrogant secularists who think they're God.

You know if the White House can go all goo-goo and decorate with Christmas trees and festive decorations and have Heads of State from foreign nations visit during this time...why can't any other place in this country do the same without thinking they are offending others...

That's a really good point. The WH doesn't put up any muslim decorations when a muslim visits the WH and the arabs don't put up any Judeo Christian decor when our reps visit there. Each should respectful of the beliefs of each society and we should not cowtow to other faiths. It's Christmas, the celebration of Christ's birth, not anyone else's. But, again, I will say that the Menorah is acceptable as it is part of the Judeo/Christian roots of this nation. Although, why pick this time of the year to put up the Menorah? There are plenty of days in which nothing is happnin.

If you will notice the White House to my knowledge does not put anything up other than festive tree decorations, floral arrangements, garland, lots of toy soldiers and toy drums this year..... I have never seen any crosses, nativity scenes or other religious symbols depicted in the decorating of the White House.......

I suspect the airport would have had no problem with adding a menorah if they could be assured that it would put an end to the controversy. But it sounds to me like they feared this lawsuit was just the tip of the iceberg and, if they gave in to the rabbi, they'd be forced to give in to folks from other religions who may have felt compelled to sue. If you buy that arguement, just what other holidays would have to be represented? And so what if they were? They would have to allow all other religious holidays of this season to be represented, wouldn't they? Otherwise, they'd be put in a position of trying to decide which religions were worthy of recognition and which ones weren't. They'd have to say Christmas trees and mennorahs are okay, but yule logs aren't allowed, for example.

Unless there are private rooms decorated for the President and Mrs. Bush and I suspect that there are....what the public sees is "festive" decorations only....nothing religious.
