Please explain how it will hurt my marriage Never said it would hurt your marriage. But redefining it to make the act meaningless is da*n sure going to have a negative effect on future arrangements. Just another small step in destroying the family unit as far as I am concerned. In this day of no-fault divorce, 24 hour marriages aka Brittany Spears, adultery, abuse, etc... I'd say that the institutuion and the meaning behind modern-day marriage was already rendered pretty meaningless by the hets.

Why have marriage at all. If you want to redefine it to make it meaningless why not just do away with it altogether. To make marriage meaningless, wouldn't we have to give roommates the same priviledges that married couples enjoy? What's the difference? Roommates, queers and anyone else that wants to marry. There would be no roommates anymore, why would they not be allowed to marry just like any other same sexes would be able to do. Do you have to be male/female or queer/queer to have a commitment???

Right, and rather than try to correct the problem lets just do away with it and sweep the crap under the rug. Great logic.

[Why have marriage at all. If you want to redefine it to make it meaningless why not just do away with it altogether. Hell, you don't need to be married to cohabitate anyway, just do away with it and do away with the so-called privileges associated with it...WTS, it seems to be all about the "privileges" anyway as far as queers are concerned. Changing the standard of civil marriage does not make it meaningless, it changes the meaning. Do you think the "privilege" of government benefits associated with married status should be done away with? You apparently do. Making marriage meaningless...and if anyone can do it, it is meaningless pretty much makes any "privileges" meaningless too.

Why have marriage at all. That's a good question. Marriage is an antiquated concept. I say we just dispose of the legalities involved, and leave marriage cerimoneys to the churchs. Let's eliminate all the special perks being married offers, too. Leave property to the people who own it and their wills -regardless- of "relationship". Let us make our own decisions about who will be responsible for making decisions for us if we're ever on life support. Let's do away with the tax credits that married people and people with children get. Let's just get rid of allowing spouses on our health insurance. They need to get a job that offers benifits if they want covered. Yup... let's just get rid of marriage entirely.

Not nearly as funny as you thinking allowing same-sex unions would destroy the concept of marriage.

As usual, you can't debate the issue logically and rationally... so you have to throw in the red herring.

I get tired of people saying that it doesn't effect them directly so they don't give a sh*t. Raping children may be an extreme but it's against the law just like queers marrying is against the law. It's really hard to debate an issue logically or rationally with a liberal. What would you know about logical or rational?

What would you know about logical or rational? Gee, when did the possibility of making raping children becoming legal become a widespread legal debate? Somehow I've missed that. When did any court rule that it should be legal? When was it put on any state ballot? Some of us argue that homoseual marriage should not be illegal. Do you know of anyone who argues child rape should be legal?

Then again, allowing queers to marry is about as stupid an idea. Despite a few liberal judges and PC'ers crying for it.
