TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The Topps Meat Co. on Saturday expanded its recall of frozen hamburger patties to include 21.7 million pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria that sickened more than a dozen people in eight states. The recall of products distributed to retail grocery stores and food service institutions in the United States was a drastic increase from the 332,000 pounds recalled Tuesday. A full list of the recalled products is available at www.toppsmeat.com/

They took arrrrrrrrrr jobs! ;D
As for me, I believe there are a couple of reasons we are hearing about these issues more: distributors are more wary of the legal ramifications of people suing after getting sick from their product, than they are from the temporary black eye they will get from a recall. And, many people will see that recall as an act of good faith, which will help them far more than a lengthylist of lawsuits if they dither. Also, we have access to information from across the globe at light speed now; issues that used to be handled at a local level are now bandied about nationally, even if they do not affect the majority of states. In addition, we also have better methods of tracking shipments with the advent of computers, so it is easier to pull off such recalls.
Oh, and the illegal aliens, of course. ;D
